Acupuncture for Anxiety, Stress, and Sleep in McLean, VA
Acupuncture for Anxiety, Stress, and Sleep in McLean, VA
You’re tired, but your mind won’t settle. Your shoulders feel tense, your thoughts follow you into bed, and even quiet moments don’t always feel restful.
You may be keeping up with work and taking care of everyone around you while feeling overwhelmed inside. Sometimes, the hardest part is explaining how you feel when you seem fine on the outside.
If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone. You don’t need to explain everything perfectly or arrive feeling calm. I’m here to listen.
Why Helping You Feel Better Is Personal to Me
I have experienced anxiety myself, including a frightening panic attack. I remember how overwhelming the physical sensations felt and how much I wanted to feel safe and like myself again.
That experience deepened my compassion for my patients and my passion for helping them feel better.
I won’t assume your experience is exactly like mine. But I understand that being told to “just relax” isn’t enough. You deserve someone who takes your concerns seriously, listens without judgment, and makes time to understand what you’re going through.
When Stress and Anxiety Show Up in Your Body
Stress and anxiety can affect more than your thoughts. You may notice tight shoulders, jaw tension, digestive discomfort, changes in appetite, fatigue, or restless sleep.
These experiences can feed into each other: stress makes sleep harder, poor sleep leaves you feeling less resilient, and physical discomfort adds to the strain.
We’ll talk about how you’re feeling emotionally and physically, and how it affects your daily life. New or unexplained symptoms also deserve medical evaluation rather than being automatically attributed to anxiety.
Can Acupuncture Help With Anxiety and Stress?
Acupuncture may help reduce anxiety symptoms for some people, although research remains limited and responses vary. It can be considered as complementary support alongside appropriate mental health care.
During treatment, you’ll have quiet time to pause without needing to accomplish anything. I’ll explain each step, check your comfort, and tailor the session to you. You don’t have to clear your mind or force yourself to relax.
Many of my patients tell me they experience a deep sense of relaxation they haven’t felt in a long time—feeling more grounded, calmer, and sometimes even happier.
I’ve seen so many patients walk in feeling stressed and walk out with a smile. Those moments mean a great deal to me. Helping someone feel more at ease in their body is one of the reasons I love what I do.
Everyone’s experience is different. We’ll pay attention to your response and whether treatment is helping with the goals that matter to you.
Support for Restless Nights and Sleep Difficulties
Being exhausted all day but unable to settle at night can feel frustrating. You may struggle to fall asleep, wake repeatedly, or start the morning feeling unrested.
I take time to understand your sleep patterns, evening routine, stress, and any physical discomfort that may be keeping you awake.
Acupuncture can be explored as part of your care, with realistic expectations about the evidence. Persistent insomnia also deserves medical assessment; cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia, or CBT-I, is an established treatment that may be recommended.
Together, we’ll work toward meaningful goals, such as more restful nights and better daily functioning.
Personalized Traditional Chinese Medicine Care
Your treatment begins with a conversation.
I’ll ask about your symptoms, health history, medications, sleep, digestion, energy, and daily routines. Tongue and pulse assessment are also part of my Traditional Chinese Medicine approach, helping guide individualized treatment within this traditional framework.
I’ll explain my recommendations and discuss how we’ll evaluate progress. That might include changes in sleep quality, muscle tension, or how stress affects your everyday life.
Your care should feel understandable, and your questions are always welcome.
Chinese Herbal Medicine and Practical Dietary Guidance
When appropriate, I may recommend an individualized Chinese herbal formula after reviewing your health history, medications, and supplements.
Herbs can have side effects and interactions, so careful selection and monitoring matter. Please let me know if you’re pregnant, trying to conceive, or receiving fertility treatment.
Dietary guidance stays practical. Regular meals, adequate nourishment, and attention to caffeine may be useful starting points. My goal is to offer manageable support that fits your life without adding another overwhelming list of rules.
Working Alongside Your Mental Health Care
If you’re seeing a therapist, psychiatrist, or another healthcare provider, acupuncture can be considered as additional support. With your permission, I can coordinate with your care team.
Acupuncture and herbal medicine do not replace psychotherapy, prescribed medication, or medical evaluation. Any medication changes should be made with your prescribing clinician.
If you’re experiencing persistent low mood or depression, I encourage appropriate mental health care while helping you explore support for accompanying physical discomfort and well-being.
Nervous About Your First Visit?
Please tell me. We can take things slowly.
Acupuncture needles are very fine, and sensations vary. You may notice a brief pinch, tingling, warmth, or a dull heaviness. If anything feels sharp or uncomfortable, I can adjust or remove the needle.
You remain in control throughout your treatment. Before you leave, we’ll discuss your experience, answer your questions, and make a plan together.
